Yesterday we didn't have school! Cool, right? I thought so, but do you know why we didn't have school? I do, so I'll tell you.
First, there was a guy named Martin Luther King. He was born on January 15, 1929. Martin Luther King is famous because he made speeches to the community. He made speeches about the races of people, and that people should be treated equally. His most important speach, he siad "I have a dream that someday my children will be judged by content of their character, not by the color of their skin". Because, back then, black and white weren't allowed in the same school, or even the same bathroom for crying out loud!
Martin Luther King was starting to make a difference in the country. When one day, he was standing on the balcony of a hotel, when someone shot him. He died at the age of 39, on January 17, 1968. Ater he had died, people made a holiday for him. He made a big impact in our country, and now, black and white can live together in peace.
I respect what Martin Luther King did for our country. I hope you do too.
