Typer Shark

Hi! My name is Nate Bergman, and I’m going to tell you a game that you can play on a Friday in room 125 if you beat our typing game, All The Right Type (or A.T.R.T.).In my previous post, A.T.R.T. and Typer shark, I explained both. In this post, I am going to tell you more about Typer Shark. First, the adjective of the game is to beat as many levels as you can before you lose all your lives (you have 3). To lose a life, you have to have a shark or piranha attack, or get hit by a torpedo or cannonball. The difficulties are: Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert, and Extreme. First, let me explain the sharks: Normal sharks are just plain old sharks. You just have to type the word on them to beat them. Stealth sharks are almost the same as normal sharks, except they travel twice as fast across the first half of the screen. Toxic sharks can make new words out of the letters of their word. For example a toxic shark with the word and on it could change its word to nad, adn, or even nda. Ghost sharks have random letters on their sides. For hammerhead sharks, you type two words. Tiger sharks, you have to type three words! Stealth tiger sharks are almost the same as tiger sharks, except they are a stealth version of it. Now on to the piranhas. First of all, the difference between piranhas and sharks is that piranhas are faster than sharks, but they only have one letter on them. Sharks however, have a word on them, but they are slower. Normal piranhas you just have to type the one letter on their side to beat them. Stealth piranhas are a piranha that moves twice as fast for half of the screen. Some piranhas appear orange. That’s because you have to type two letters to beat them. Sometimes you see stealth versions of orange piranha. There are also bonus jellyfish. They appear in groups, going upward. Each one has a three-letter word on them. They go up, as I said, so they won’t damage you. Then there are these bosses: pirate sub, mecha shark, robot squid, and ghost ship. The pirate sub and mecha shark shoot torpedoes, while the robot squid and ghost ship shoot cannonballs. Torpedoes have words on them, and cannonballs have letters on them. I think the pirate sub is the easiest boss, and that the mecha shark is the hardest. Finally, you have a shark zapper that can destroy all sharks, piranhas, and bonus jellyfish on the screen when it’s fully charged (it doesn’t work against bosses, and it takes about two levels to charge). There are two options that you can do to play adventure and abyss. Adventure is the one with levels, and abyss is basically a practice where you try to go as deep as you can without losing any lives. It saves your progress every 400 ft. you go. There are special brown piranha only on abyss. The brown piranha go faster than normal piranhas. There are also bosses on abyss, so be careful! Oh and I almost forgot, I am going to tell you how to make an account. First, go in to typer shark. Next, click this is not me on the sign that says what the users name is. Type in your name and there you go! You can take a typing test if you want to (I would recommend not to). If you don’t take the typing test, you have to beat two normal sharks that don’t move (well, I forgot if they move or not, but I think they don’t). Thanks for reading!

SQUIRM

Squirm was a blast! Trevor was a great Itsy Bitsy and Katie was a great Ms. Muffet. Also, Lara, Olivia H., Tejasvini, and I sang a great quartet together. Everyone had a great singing voice! Also, it was cool that we were the worms. My favorite song was “Bats” because it is an exciting song and it’s a fast song. You all seemed like you practiced a lot because you all did an AWESOME job at our performance! Everyone used expression all the time and sang loudly!
What’s your favorite song? How did you like the musical? Well, I loved the play and it was EPIC and fun.

Technology in Our Class

Hi! I’m Autumn and I’m going to tell you about technology in room 125.
First of all, I’m going to tell you about computer buddies. At the start of the year, everyone is paired up with a computer buddy. Second graders are with third graders that know a lot about computers. For example, some computer buddies are Trevor and Lara or Maya and Lily. My buddy is Roberto. Third graders help their buddies, but don’t do whatever it is we are doing for them when it’s a new learning for the second graders.
Also, there are the computer helpers (at least that’s what I call them). They are MacLean, Nate, and Andrew. Andrew is the main helper. They help Ms. T. out whenever she runs into a problem on her computer. That’s sort of why I call them computer helpers.
One major rule is no playing video games!
I think the computers are a wonderful source of information. Don’t you? I hope you enjoyed my post.

My Favorite Series

Hello! What is your favorite book? My name is Lily, and one of my favorite books is Eragon. I am going to tell you all about it.

Have you ever heard about the Inheritance series? Have you read them? If you like action, suspense, fantasy, magic, this is the series for you. There are four books: today I will tell you about one of the four. The first book, Eragon, is about a boy who finds what he thinks is a stone that will buy him, his cousin, Roran, and his uncle, Garrow, meat for the winter. A few months later, the “stone” rocks, cracks, and releases a baby dragon!  Months pass, in which he raises the dragon, which he names Saphira, meets the old village storyteller Brom, and flees Carvahall, his home since he was a little boy. Along the way to the Varden, the organization working against the tyrant king, Galbatorix, the Ra’zac, the evil creatures that later kill his uncle Garrow, kill Brom with an arrow. As the Ra’zac are about to slaughter Eragon, a man, about Eragon’s age, scares the Ra’zac away. His name is Murtagh, and their friendship grows steadily, and together they reach the Varden. There, Murtagh reveals his greatest secret: he is the son of Morzan, the Rider who betrayed the rest of the Riders to Galbatorix. Once they enter Farthen Dur, the home of the Varden, they feel as if they have found a safe haven. Then, just months later, peace flees. What happened to the Varden? Will they survive, or die in the attempt?

This is the first of four in the Inheritance series. The other three are Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance. I am on Brisingr, and it is very good. I will be doing other posts on Eldest and Brisingr, and, if I have finished it by then, Inheritance, so if you want to know more, just say so!

AR

Hi, my name is Autumn B., and I’m going to tell you about AR. AR is a reading program, it’s a program that when you read a book that’s on the AR test list, you can take a test on the book. But it’s mainly so teachers can track your reading progress. Every book is worth a couple points. They are usually worth about 3 or 4 points. Some books are worth 0.5 points, while others can be 20 points or more. The most points I ever got from a book was 29 points. Another thing in AR is the 100 point club. That is something Mrs. Irion, the librarian does. If you get 100 points or more, at an assembly, she calls out your name, for example, last year Lily made it to the 100 point club. You also get a medal and certificate. It says you made the 100 point club. Also, the books are different levels, take for example, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, that book was a very high reading level, it was 7.2. Another example is Warriors, Moonrise. It’s level 5.8. I love the AR program, and I think you will to. Hope you make the 100 point club! Posted by Autumn B.

Kids in Medicine

Hi, my name is Autumn and I’m going to tell you about our field trip to Kids in Medicine.

We learned all about how the heart works. We played a game where some people were red blood cells, some were white blood cells, and others were platelets. The red blood cells would carry oxygen to the brain or muscles. When they got to the brain or the muscles, they exchanged oxygen for carbon dioxide and went back to the lungs. White blood cells tried to destroy diseases and infections. Ms. T was an infection. They had to watch carefully to make sure that there were no diseases or infections. Platelets would try to block up the parts of the body that were bleeding. It took 2 or 3 platelets to block up just 1 gap. If they didn’t and a red blood cell came around, it would stay on the outside of the gap.

We also went and learned about how to take care of our heart. We watched a funny cartoon where this guy was eating a couple dozen donuts a day. Some evil bad guy got all mad for no good reason. The donut guy was taken to the evil bad guy, and was put under so much stress that he had a heart attack. We demonstrated a heart attack by having someone crawl through a tunnel that was empty, and one that had plaque (the plaque was a bunch of yellow balls). THE PERSON HAD A HEART ATTACK! They had a heart attack because the oxygen-rich blood didn’t get to part of the heart in time.

There was also a part where we tested our hypothesis that aerobic exercise made your heart work faster than anaerobic exercise. We tested it by doing weightlifting for 1 minute and jumping jacks for 1 minute. We also took our pulse after resting, doing weightlifting, and doing jumping jacks. My pulse for resting was 44, for weightlifting it was 76, and for jumping jacks it was 120. Our hypothesis was right!

Of course, there was also the dissection of the pig’s heart part. We all put on gloves and a gown. We all got lab partners, like Maya and Georgia or Nate and Trevor. I was lab partners with Isabel. MacLean got Dr. Stocker! Lucky! Once everyone was paired up, we started feeling the heart and dissecting it. I thought it was fun to learn about how it works.

We also saw a real heart and lungs from a 92-year-old woman. Her heart was covered in yellowish stuff that we learned was fat. Her lungs had black spots which we were told were parts that “died.”

I had a wonderful time at Kids in Medicine. Do you think you’d like it, and if you’ve already gone, did you like it? I know I did. Posted by Autumn Bryant

ATRT (All The Right Type)

Today I beat the game on All the Right Type! You have to beat 18 levels to beat it. It gets really addicting when you are really close to beating it. I wanted to stay in every recess to beat it. Lily I. made a badge for me that is shaped like a shark, and it says my name on it, and holds this little thing in its mouth that says “I am a Typershark!”It’s cute. If you have read Nate Bergman’s blog than you will know more about ATRT and Typershark. When you beat the game sequence option turns off so you just have to do Practice Pavillion which makes you beat the game again, but you beat it faster. You also get a new goal, my new goal is 25 wpm (words per minute). Beating the game is so awesome. If you have not beat the game yet, I am sure you are going to love it! Posted by: Tejasvini Vijay

Science

Hi, my name is Autumn B. and I am going to tell you about science in Ms. Turchin’s class. Right now we are working on our butterfly unit. It took a while to get started because the caterpillars were shipped to a different building. At first they all started to die. Then mine turned into a pup, but since most of them were dead, we had to get another batch. They were shipped to the wrong building as well, so it took longer than we wanted it to take. Most of the class’s have turned into butterflies. There are 2 dead ones. I’ve been seeing eggs! I wonder when they will hatch. We are allowed to bring orange slices to school for the butterflies. There is red stuff in there butterfly house. Ms. T. told us it from there metamorphosis. At first I thought it was blood. Luckily, it’s not. Last year we did a plant unit. I remember that mine grew 4 inches tall. Some of the leaves got brownish. I think Lily’s was something like 3 inches tall. I’m not quite sure. I think the butterfly unit is better than the plant one. Do all the third graders from last year agree with me? I love science and I bet you will to. By: Autumn B.

A.T.R.T. And Typer Shark

Hi! I am Nathaniel Bergman and I am going to tell you about A.T.R.T. (All The Right Type) and Typer Shark. A.T.R.T. is a typing game where you learn to type all the letters of the alphabet, and then all the numbers. You also learn the symbols “.”,”,” and “?” along with how to make capital letters. I think the hardest level was “Capitals and periods”. The sequence of a level is: first learning lab, second practice pavilion, third skill building, and then after every three levels testing center. When you beat the game, you work on practice pavilion to improve your WPM (Words Per Minute) scores. When you beat the game, you can also go on Typer Shark on Friday. On typer shark, you type words on sharks and bonus jellyfish, and letters on faster piranhas before they touch you. At the end of each level, there is a shipwreck bonus where you type as many words as you can before air runs out. Sometimes, there is a boss at the end of a level (like a submarine or a robot shark) right before the shipwreck bonus. You do A.T.R.T. or Typer Shark every day during math groups.
