Library

In library, we check out books. You have to check out at least one book, unless the teacher tells you to. Make sure it’s an AR book. Take an AR test every AR book you read. That should be at least ONCE A MONTH! The librarian is Mrs. Irion. She does fun stuff like drawing, crafts, and videos. When you are done, you can go on the computer. We also have a library in our class. You cannot check out books there…but, you can read them in free time. Everybody gets a dictionary from there to keep. No books in there are AR books. Music

Do you like music? Well, I do! I think music is fun because we get to dance, sing, play instruments, and listen to stories Ms.Cox sings to us! I love to sing and dance! If you’re a 3rd grader, I recommend you join the orchestra because you can learn how to play an instrument! My favorite song we have learned so far is “Witch, witch couldn't sew a stitch.” I love to play the instruments. I hope you liked my post! Posted by Maya Falodia

My Favorite Book

Hi! I’m Maya, and my favorite book is Scat by Carl Hiaasen. The book Scat is about kids named Marta, Nick, and Duane Scrod Jr. (also known as Smoke). They all go to the same school together, and they all have Mrs. Starch for Biology. However, nobody enjoys having her as a biology teacher. But, one day in class, Mrs. Starch is teaching about the Calvin Cycle and she asked if anyone could tell her about the Calvin Cycle. Nobody raised their hand except for Graham, who always raised his hand but never knew the answer. So, Mrs. Starch scolds Duane for not knowing the answer and Duane makes a couple of jokes nervously and he also kept on picking at a pimple on his face. Mrs. Starch told Duane to write a 500-word essay on pimples, and to make it funny because she said he was such a comedian. She was tapping a pencil on his desk, so he chomped off half of the pencil and walked out the class. Mrs. Starch reports to the principal about Duane walking out the classroom early and chomping off half of the pencil. The principal was more concerned about how dangerous it is to have a pencil go down his throat, than walking out of class early. Also Mrs. Starch’s class was also going on a field trip to Black Vine Swamp the next day. That day Nick and Marta walk home from the bus together, and talk about the field trip the next day and about Duane. When Nick got home he was alone, as usual because his mother works for the jail. Nick rushed to the computer to see if his dad had e-mailed him. His dad worked for the army, and hadn’t e-mailed him in a while. When his mom came home Nick told her about what happened with Duane Scrod Jr. and his mother told him that she had Duane Scrod Sr. in the jail one time. The next day on the field trip, Duane was not at school so his classmates got concerned because the day before he had chomped off half of Mrs. Starch’s pencil and walked off before that period had ended. Nick always wanted to see a panther so he brought a video camera to the field trip. Because they were in Florida they didn’t see very many panthers out because their population was very low. When they got to Black Vine Swamp on the bus, they split up with three teachers. Both Marta and Nick were not in Mrs. Starch’s group. At lunch, they see something moving. Is it a panther? That’s what Nick thinks so he took a video to see what it was, until Mrs. Starch blew a whistle, which meant something dangerous was happening. There was a small wildfire! They all boarded the bus, but Mrs. Starch didn’t get in her car because she went to go find Libby Marshall’s inhaler. The next day Mrs. Starch was missing! If you want to know more about Scat, read the book! Posted by Maya B.

ART

Hi, my name is Autumn B., and I am going to tell you about art. My mom is our art docent. She teaches us all about art. For example, last year we made clay bells, and another time we made a glue painting. I always enjoy art very much. Right now we’re working on a drawing using pastels, pencil’s, or water color paint. When we do art, we always get creative. Once I did a unicorn, and last year I did a painting with glue that had a tree as the main subject, and flower pots on the sides with the sun in the background. I love art, and I bet you would to!

Class Room Jobs

Hi my name is Maya, and it is a lot of fun being in Ms. Turchin’s class. I’m going to tell you about our classroom jobs. It’s fun to have jobs in our class because we get to take our own responsibilities. What I do for my classroom job is every morning I do lunch count. I make sure that the office knows what people want for lunch. We also have people that help pass out lunch sticks to every person, so I can do lunch count, and count the lunch sticks. We also have a messenger that takes the messages down to the office to send messages every morning. Then we have two people who go down at the end of the day to go and get the messages that the office sends. Sometimes people can have two class jobs. Another one of my jobs is to write down math targets on the white board so people have an idea what they’re learning in math. Two people can do that job because there are two math groups: the orange math group and the green math group. Some people take the lunch tub to the lunchroom and back to class at lunch. They also make sure everyone has their lunch boxes. Also one person takes the library cart to the library. Some people also renew books every week if people want to finish their book. We also have a class library that people help clean up at recess. In our class we also have computers and people make sure they’re clean and are turned off. Some other fun jobs in our class include: paper passers, pledge of allegiance, group leaders, and garbage busters It’s fun to have class jobs. The class wouldn't even run if even one person decided to not do their job, and that’s why jobs are so important. posted by Maya B

Oral Presentation

Hi, my name is Autumn B., I am in Ms. T’s class and I am going to tell you about our monthly oral press. Anyway, every month we have an oral press, and every month we have a different topic. This month, our topic is to do a fable, a folktale, or a fairy tale that we have to memorize, to do a retelling. Last time, in September, we had to do a presentation about ourselves, and to help us know what to say next, we could do a PowerPoint, use pictures, or even a poster, I did a PowerPoint. Ms. T said we could NOT read our presentation, and we could NOT type up a story on our PowerPoint. This time we can’t use any of that, but we can use props. Thanks for reading my post, Autumn B.

Computer Buddies

Hi. I am going to tell you about the computer buddies in Room 125. Computer buddies help you with learning things on computers. Ms. Turchin usually pairs an experienced 3rd grader with a new 2nd grader. I have learned a lot about computers from my computer buddy, Ethan. He is really nice. There are other good pairs of third-graders and second- graders. For example, there is Isabel and Alyssa, Lilly and Jared, and, even though Liv is a third-grader and she’s new, she is still paired with Allyson so she can learn the things that third-graders from last year know. Library Fun

I love Library! It is always so fun! Recently it was Dr. Seuss’s birthday, and our librarian let us wear all of our Dr. Seuss stuff. She also dressed up like Thing 1 or Thing 2, I forget. We also have Library Helpers in our class, which are Me, Aubrey, Crosby, Ashlyn,Allyson, and Ethan. We help scan books, and sort them, and we also get to go to parties! We sort books; we help Ms. Irion a great deal, and much more. Hope you love library as much as I do! Blogged By: Lilly T.

ATRT (All The Right Type)

ATRT (All The Right Type) is a computer program used to develop typing skills. At the beginning, you learn to type the home row (in the middle of the keyboard)and at the end you learn how to type the numbers. It’s important to be able to type quickly for all sorts of things like email, texting and bigger projects like reports. The "hunt and peck" method (that’s when you do one letter at a time with just the index fingers) is way too slow. ATRT is a pretty fun program. I think the level “Capitals and Periods” is harder than the rest. ATRT scores you by WPM (words per minute). I am working at about 30 words per minute. By: Andy C.

All About Writing

Have you ever written a story? I have. It’s called “Zombies.” First, you need a title with capitals as needed. Next, you need a good beginning, the one I used for this blog was “Start with a question.” Then, you need a body with capitals, commas, and periods. Then you need a good ending, like “End with a question.” After that, put the date and your name. Next, you can format. Then, you can publish your story and then pat yourself on the back for a job-well-done! Published by: Trevor

Math

In orange group we are measuring capacity, weight, volume, and time. In the green group they are understanding and developing Spatial Reasoning. P.O.D is usually math, so that is why I am talking about it. Do you like math as much as I do? Blogged By Andrew W.

Friends In Room 125

There are a lot of friends in room 125. I’m not trying to brag, but everyone is making new friends every day! Some of us are in the Carnation Idol, and me and the other kids in the Carnation Idol have made a lot of friends from other classes as well. One of the friends I made last night during practice I met a girl named Rohana. She’s really nice. There are also a lot of close friends like Georgia and Paige, Alyssa and Jared, Me, Autumn, Maya, and Isabel, as well as Nicholas, Andy, Maclean, Andrew, and Josh. I hope someday YOU can be my friend. Blogged by, Lily I.

Star Student

In our class we have a star student every week! Each week one of the students in our class brings in pictures of them, their house, favorite food, family, favorite sport, their pet, their favorite book, and favorite school subject to share with the class. At a recess they stay in to put up their pictures of them. When they are a star student they get to be at the front of the line all the time. So everyone in our class cannot wait to be star student! I hope that you learned about more about what it is like to be star student in our class! Posted By: Liv

Khan Academy

Khanacademy is a website for learning math. Hit practice an you will be taken to a map. You need an account to save progress. When you see the attain mastery button click it. That’s is review. A skill is a lesson where you practice your math skills. To check the answer, hit the check answer button. If you get it right, a smiley face will pop up... and you won’t like it when you get it wrong. The videos are important. If it is something hard like calculus, look under the hint button and you will see a "stuck watch a video" button. Click it and you will see the video pop up. It’s a YouTube video so if you are at school it might be blocked.Click the play button, and it will start playing. You could also hit the watch button to see all the videos. See the blue box with the numbers, that’s energy points. If you get enough energy points you can chose more pictures for your avatar. And badges are rewards for completing certain stuff. Need more help ask me at school. Posted by Alex go to www.khanacademy.org

Our play… the clowns

We are doing a play. We are doing it with some other classes. It is called ‘Clowns’. I recently got a part. I am Pretty Polly! As well as having a speaking part, I have a solo where I get to sing a song. It is about the millions of colors that are around us. It is on March 28th, and all of our parents get to come and watch! It has been so fun practicing our songs and auditioning for the parts. I practically nailed it the second time I tried, but the first time I hadn’t practiced at all, and I was all shaky and nervous. I even started playing with my scarf! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the play! Blogged By: Lilly T.

The Valentine Day Party

Thursday, February 14, 2013 was the Valentine party! We all had a fun time opening Valentines from our classmates. All the kids in the class brought healthy foods and drinks for our refreshments. The party moms, Ms. Bhavsar and Ms. Delorey(my mom), helped at our party. We all enjoyed getting valentines from our friends and party moms! Almost all the Valentines had sweets on them. This was the best Valentine’s Day EVER! I am going to miss leaving this amazing class! Blogged by Abby
