Penpals

Yesterday we got our letters from each of our pen pals. We got them from Nicaragua.
Ms. Turchin passed the letters out to each child. It was ATRT time, so instead of doing ATRT we translated our pen pals writing on the computer. Some of the pen pals put pictures for there pen pals. My pen pal drew a rainbow with her and me under it. All of the pen pals stapled a picture on it. After we translated it we read it. I think mine was beautiful.

Hiking

Today about 12:25 we exited from lunch [5 minutes before we're supposed to exit the multipurpose room at lunch] and went on a hike. At lunch every day Ms.T and Joyce walk together ...but today all of Ms.T's class went with them! We walked on the Snowqualmie Trail and went to the Tolt River. We didn't go over the bridge, but we did go under it and next to the river, to look for animal tracks. We saw these tracks: dog, cat, deer, and some car tracks too. We also saw an actual dog!! Soon we had to head back to school, Ms.T's class back to the class room and Joyce back to the office. It was lot's of fun!!

Nature vision

Yesterday, Clay from Nature Vision came to our classroom. She did a program called TRACKS. She took out real skins of animals and plastic molds of their scat[aka droppings]. She also told us about these paw prints of many different animals like: a bobcat, a grey squirrel, and last of all a skunk. We made plaster of paris tracks for various animals. It was lots of fun!

Solving the Question?

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? The world may never know.

That’s now not true! I got a tootsie pop on 6/10/09 and Ms. T told us to count how many licks it took to get to the center of the tootsie pop. We didn’t have to(She was just kidding), but I did. I kept on licking my tootsie pop. Finally, I got the number: 1,430 licks. So it takes about 1,430 licks to get to the center of a tootsie pop, but I didn’t stop there. I kept on licking until the entire tootsie pop was gone. You’ll be surprised about this: It takes about 1,985 licks to eat a tootsie pop. Wow! Please note: I took small licks!

The Last Fire Drill

Yesterday was the last fire drill this year. We were about to do writing but suddenly the fire alarm went off. We went outside, and when we got under the covered area we heard distant sirens. A couple minutes later, a fire truck parked by the school. Mr. Poage had said they had a surprise for us, and when the fire drill was over, a fire man got out of the truck and came over by the covered area. He had a hose and started spraying water straight in the air. Then the fire truck started spraying water all over the playground. Everybody ran under were the most water was falling. Every few minutes the guy on top of the fire truck jerked the hose to a different spot. When that happened, everybody would run as fast as they could toward where the water was. Eventually they turned off the water, and I was soaked. I thought it was a lot of fun.

Otter Pops

Our class loves Otter Pops! We have them every sunny day that is at least 62 degrees fahrenheit. Everyone has their favorite flavor of Otter Pops. Mine is orange flavored. There are about 5 flavors: punch, grape, strawberry, raspberry, orange, and lime. In case you don't know, Otter Pops are ice with flavoring. We had some just this afternoon. We are allowed to trade the Otter Pop we get if we would like a different flavor and someone else wants to have yours. Some people in our class like to melt theirs, and then they drink them. But sadly we only have enough for about two more days!
: ( So parents PLEASE send in some Otter Pops so we can enjoy them again : )

Cosmic Bowling

In P.E. we did some thing called cosmic bowling. It is where the lane sides (for bowling) are lit up by Christmas lights. I played different bowling games like fast bowling, it is were you have one pin set up and you have a partner, you and you're partner take turns bowling and running between each time you bowl. Another game I played is king and queen bowling. It is were you cheer each other a lot, that is the fun part! You get to jump up and encourage your partner while he is bowling. That is were you set up as many pins as you want, up to ten and then you run toward them and slide and knock all the pins down. The sad thing about that game is we don't get prizes. We also can win prizes.

Woodland Park Zoo

Has your class ever been too the Woodland Park Zoo? My class has, and it is Super fun. There are tigers, lions, bears, apes, gorillas, bats, snakes, flamingos, frogs, and A LOT more. My favorite animal was the hippo. They were really funny. But my mom did NOT like the snake exhibits. I liked them but they weren’t my favorite. But my mom still went through the reptile house. Only because she had to with the whole group, so maybe someday your class will go to the Woodland Park Zoo too.

P.S there will be penguins there this May!!!!!!!!!!!

Class webpage

Have you ever been on our class webpage? It has a photo gallery, along with all sorts of other stuff. Today I downloaded some more pictures on the photo gallery. (You'll have to go see them!) It was my first time to post pictures on the photo gallery. We currently have 10 different picture galleries. Posting pictures on the website is fun. You have to take pictures on the camera, plug in the camera to the computer, download the pictures you want, go into Microsoft Front Page, make a new page, put in the pictures, than your pictures are on the webpage.
If you want to see the pictures, just go to our classroom homepage and click photo gallery.

Second Grade Fun

WASL Testing for the 2nd graders

WASL testing was 4/15/09, 4/17/09, 4/20/09, and 4/21/09 and while 3rd graders were testing the 2nd graders did….ALL SORTS OF FUN STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the first day of testing we saw what colors go into pens. Did you know that black pens are not just black? It is lots of colors mixed together! On the 2nd day we made things that work by wind moving it. We made airplanes, copters, ring flyers, pinwheels, and balloon rockets. The 3rd day we made things out of gum drops, tooth picks, and these things called magic noodles. Those things were bridges, towers, pyramids, and even a man who likes to drink Coca Cola and lives with his angry wife in a gumdrop house.[she is angry because he invited a friend without permission.] On the last day we put on a play for the 3rd graders called treasure hunters. It’s about 4 alien friends trying to find some treasure, 2 shopping mall guards trying to move there bus and 1 book with the wrong definitions. It was a lot of fun!

WASL survivors

The WASL is so F-U-N, FUN! The last day we made necklaces that said: I'm a survivor, I'm gonna make it, I will survive' Keep on surviving. Before we started the WASL we each got a yellow carrel so we had a private workspace. We also got gum, a no. 2 pencil, and smarties. We had to write our name on the front. Then we started WASLing. The WASL is a bunch of questions. There are four types of WASL tests: Math, Reading, Writing, and Science. We only did Math and Reading. Our break time is 10:25 to 10:45, which is time for recess. At break time we get to eat our snacks and go in the back, where our library is. If you're finished with your WASL test early you should stay at your desk and read your AR book. There are two types of questions: multiple choice questions and short answer questions. The Math tests are just questions, questions, questions. The Reading test you have to read something before you answer the questions.

WE ARE WASL SURVIVORS!

Books, Books, and more Books

I love BOOKS!!! My class has a library. Well, all classes have a library (mayby not all classes ) but my class library is really BIG. It also has some small sofas and pillows to enjoy while reading. All of my class books are really interesting books. The one I just finished is called The Indian in the Cupboard. It had lots of adventure.
I enjoy going into our reading area and going into bookland. It where you are lost in reading a book, and can't hear anything around you. I enjoy going into bookland.
I hope you visit our class library and have many book land adventures!

January 2009 Floods

The snow finally disappeared, and we thought that the crazy weather was over, but then the water in the river started to rise and we got a record breaking flood! That morning dad came in and woke us all up to tell us that school was out because of record breaking floods. He said that there weren't any floods like this since the year of 2000! Then he told us the fun news. We were going to see the flood waters! We got dressed real fast and went down stairs. Then, we ate breakfast and got into the car. On the way ,we went into a big puddle, and where there are big puddles there are big splashes! When we got there I saw Jennifer and her family. I was very exicited. Mom said we could go to all the flood sites today! I also got to go on a platform near the water. The water was really high, even at the beginning of the water, it was high! We also got to go to Duvall Park, and on the bridge too! Then, we had to go home and have lunch. Boy was that a fun day!!!

Winter Wonderland

Winter Break

My winter break was different than most of my winter breaks. First, we got 38 inches of snow. Second, the power went out on Christmas Eve and on Christmas, Third, I got to drive my neighbor's snowmobile, and fourth, I got to my friend's house before we got three more inches of snow. In the snow, birds can't find food so I put out birdseed for them. The power outages weren't long, unless you call four and five hours long. I drove the snowmobile around the neighborhood and even on a snowy road because cars weren't on it. And lucky for me, I made it to my friends house before more snow came. I will probably always remember this winter break. But if I remembered this winter break because we had a longer break because of snow, I'll probably remember this summer break too because it will be shorter because we will be making up days of school.
