Proboscis

My class is doing a word list about "butterfly vocabulary". My word is proboscis and if you don't know what a proboscis is I will tell you a little bit about it. A proboscis is a butterfly's tongue. The tongue of a butterfly is used for sucking nectar from a flower. If you have a butterfly in captivity (that is when you have a pet butterfly) you need to feed them sugarwater. To make sugar water you only need 2 things warm water and sugar then you need to mix it together so that the butterfly can suck it up easier.
See if you can find one on your butterfly.

Hermie

Yesterday my caterpillar (Hermie) started making his chrysalis, later in the day he was in his chrysalis and I put him in the butterfly house. We put sponges with sugar water in it. I feel sorry for Zoe since her caterpillar died, her new caterpillar's name is NiteLite. I hope Hermie is doing OK. Boing 747 (Breyton's caterpillar) was the first one to be in a chrysalis. I wonder where Hermie's and all the other caterpillars families are. I can't wait till next year.

Breyton's Chrysalis

This morning I came in and found that my caterpillar was in its chrysalis. Well Mitchell told me then everybody crowded. Last year my plant was the last to get flowers now my caterpillar is the first to be in its chrysalis. Over night it was in its j stage. That's how my caterpillars doing. How's yours.

My Larvae

Hi. I'm Zoe, and this is Nibbles Catterpoo, Junior. Who is he, you say? He is my larvae(caterpillar). Yesterday, he spun a web. Today, it is almost gone. AMAZING! Nibbles is 3/4 inch long. The day he arrived (September 15, 2005) he was only 1 and 1/4 centimeter. Wow! Nibbles' favorite place: the wall of his cage. He seems to have lost a couple of legs. His poop is called frass. His food is called nutrient. He is a painted lady butterfly larvae. He is hairy.
We are observing them to learn about their life cycle. Uh oh, nibbles fell asleep. Sssshhhhh!

Our NEW class

Hi! I'm Caitlin and I'm going to tell you about my new classroom. I'm in the PAT class. (In case you don't know what PAT is it means Program for the Academically Talented.) My teacher is Ms. Turchin. (she's really nice) There are a lot of new kids this year for instance Kira, Bryan, Christian and Susanne. In my group(group two) I sit with Piper, Mitchell, Ryan and Me. Now I'll describe our classroom. There are twenty-three students in our class. There are eleven computers along one wall. Each person has a computer buddy or works alone without sharing their computer. Then on another wall is the classroom library. There's a lot of books in the library. My favorite books in the library are the Choose Your Own Adventure Books. They are a book where you don't read it from beginning to end, but you can choose what you want the story to be like. On the same wall as the library is Ms. Turchin's work station. Then on one wall there's the sink and the door. On that same wall is the parent volunteers table. Then on the last wall there's Ms. Turchins desk. Ms. Turchin has a computer too. She also has Elmo and the projector. Okay I bet some of you are wondering what Elmo is Elmo is some thing you can put things under and it will show up on the screen behind Ms. Turchin with the help of the projector. The projector is on Ms. Turchins right side Elmo is on her left. There are six groups in my class. Group one is on the left side of Ms. Turchin and group two (where I sit) is in front of it. Then group three is on the right side of group two. Group four is on the right side of group three. Group five is in front of group four. Finally group six is in front of Ms. Turchins desk. Andy C., Wesley, Sid and Andy S. sit at group one. As I said Mitchell, Piper, Ryan and me sit at group two. Brandon, Conner H. Corey and Kira sit at group three. Breyton, Conner B. and Matthew sit at group four. Susanne, Christian, Morgan and Garrett sit at group five. Bryan, Alex, Zoe and Jackson sit at group six. I told you a lot about my class and classroom and I'm sort of out of things to write so would you tell me about your class and your classroom now?
